Light is using the Death Note even more, but times get tough when L comes in the picture more clearly. His father is working with L to try and uncover who this Kira may be unknowing that it is in fact his own son. Light soon learns the identity of L and is utterly shocked. L try's to unmask Kira thinking that Light may be him. L's suspicion grows when Light seems just to o perfect. Will the two boys relationship grow or will L catch Light in the act? Will Light learn L's real name and use the Death Note on him before L' figures out the true Kira? And What is going on with this second Kira in town?I loved this volume so much! Especially with the Identity of L somewhat released. I liked all the anticipation of wanting to know what will happen. I also like how Light is developing as a character. Ryuk is one of my favorite characters and I feel his personality is displayed awesomely throughout this series. This new Kira is especially enticing and I can't wait to see how much further it develops! (Even though I've already seen the Anime show.)
I'm currently getting back into this series again after a few years, and I'm not disappointed at all. Each book is an emotional ride of twists and turns; this is one of those series where I can truly say that, from beginning to end, it's entertaining and always capable of surprising you, whereas some manga or anime series... well, don't know when to call it quits and end it already, and tie you along for mundane or predictable story. My only gripe is that, whereas I bought my book 'new', it came with the binding a little worn with a tiny tear, and a few of the front pages had a weird little cut out of them. I think this is more of a seller issue, and it's not that big of a deal, but I'm kind of weird about keeping my manga in perfect shape haha.
Death Note Black Edition III begins with the capture of Light and Misa Misa. Then, it introduces a third Kira. This Kira is an executive at an international corporation, and along with a group of others, he decides who to kill to benefit the corporation. L and the two other Kiras, Light and the former second Kira, Misa Misa, are after him. The majority of this collection is the Third Kira arc, which wraps up at the end of the collection, continuing on in Black Edition IV.Too many Kiras. I loved Black Edition I and Black Edition II, but I was lukewarm to this volume. Basically, I read Death Note to see what Light's up to, and in this volume, he doesn't use his Death Note once. Misa Misa has forgotten that she ever was the second Kira, and Light's under constant supervision, so he can't kill anyone. The ending of the volume, the last 50 or 75 pages, was awesome, though.. ***1/2
This is to complete a series read many years ago. The concept of the series is what happens when a Shinkogami (or death god) drops it's notebook on Earth. When a teenager finds the notebook he suddenly has power over death. How he handles thar power or more to the point how it handles him is what gives this 12 volume series it's story. The Black editions each contain two books out of the series. Book 3 has books 5 & 6 in it. This series has an OLDER teen rating. So please parents learn what the manga/graphic novel system means before buying these or any other manga for your kids. Older teen means just that, they are not suitable for young kids or younger teens.

This is one of the most original manga ever written. Read other reviewers for great plot summaries. If you are reading these reviews your question must be, "Is this something I want to read?" Death Note, unlike a great deal of manga, you have to read. It has wonderful artwork, some of the best I have ever seen. But, the art does not carry the story, the words carry this story. In volume 1, Light finds the Death Note, and at first it seems like killing all criminals is a good idea. But, by volume 2, you begin to see what the power of the Death Note is doing to Light. Volume 3, introduces a new character to the story that complicates the story line, but in a good way. If this series was a movie it would be considered "film noir". It is dark, with many plot twists, microscopic viewing of the line between good and evil, and how that line can be twisted to suit the person doing the twisting. This manga is a thinking manga. After you finish each volume, you will find yourself thinking about it, worrying over some of the plots like a dog with a bone. think, think, think. Enjoy!
